In-Vitro Silanization of Dental Enamel to Prevent Demineralization

چکیده
Introduction. Caries is a multifactorial disease that can negatively affect dental tissues through the demineralization process, which produces acids deriving from metabolism of carbohydrates. Some strategies to prevent this process have been proposed, such as topical fluoride application, resin-based restorations, pit and fissures sealers, infiltrated resins, vaccines, mouthwashes, several brushing techniques. Objective. To evaluate in vitro enamel hydrophobic modification method prevention against demineralization. Materials Methods. A descriptive comparative study was carried out. Thirty premolars extracted for orthodontic reasons were obtained, encapsulated epoxy resin, sectioned, sanded obtain specimens 3mm thickness. The samples pretreated with NaOCl EDTA, incubated 1 4% octadeyltrichlorosilane (OTS) or 3 6% octadecyltriethoxysilane (TEOS) 5min 8h. Subsequently, immersed citric acid 2 months. analyzed by their contact angle, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic confocal force, before after treatment acid. Results. coated OTS 8h kept silanizing agent on surface months TEOS only effective at reaction time 5min. Conclusions. protects tooth acidic medium. results indicate 5min, makes it appropriate clinical practice.

Variation in Enamel Formation Genes Influences Enamel Demineralization In Vitro in a Streptococcus mutans Biofilm Model
Genetic studies have shown that variations in enamel formation genes are associated with caries susceptibility. The aim of this study was to test in vitro whether variants in these genes are associated with dental enamel demineralization in a Streptococcus mutans biofilm model. DNA and enamel samples were obtained from 213 individuals. DNA was extracted from saliva, and 16 single nucleotide pol...
متن کاملThe efficacy of laser fluorescence to detect in vitro demineralization and remineralization of smooth enamel surfaces.
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the laser fluorescence (LF) device in detecting in vitro demineralization and remineralization of smooth surface caries-like lesions. BACKGROUND DATA The early detection of smooth surface caries-like lesions is important to provide proper management of carious lesions, and allows monitoring of them over time. Also, some autho...
متن کاملNovel Dental Cement to Combat Biofilms and Reduce Acids for Orthodontic Applications to Avoid Enamel Demineralization
Orthodontic treatments often lead to biofilm buildup and white spot lesions due to enamel demineralization. The objectives of this study were to develop a novel bioactive orthodontic cement to prevent white spot lesions, and to determine the effects of cement compositions on biofilm growth and acid production. 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC), nanoparticles of silver (NAg), and di...
متن کاملThe effect of gamma radiation on enamel hardness and its resistance to demineralization in vitro.
Given the importance of sterilizing human teeth before using them in research, the effects of a 25 kGy dose of gamma radiation on the mechanical properties of enamel and its resistance to demineralization were evaluated. Thirty human teeth were sectioned longitudinally, and while one half of each tooth was irradiated, the other half was kept as a control. Abraded and unabraded enamel slabs were...
متن کاملThe potential of fluoride-releasing dental restoratives to inhibit enamel demineralization: an SEM study.
UNLABELLED (Full text is available at http://www.manu.edu.mk/prilozi). OBJECTIVES The study was aimed at determining the effectiveness of fluoride-releasing materials (conventional and resin-modified glass-ionomers, compomer and fluoride-releasing composite resin) in inhibiting demineralization of restored teeth in an artificial caries medium. METHODS A total of 72 teeth (36 deciduous and 3...
